Office Noise Reduces Productivity
Many businesses feel that the biggest drivers of lost productivity are web surfing activities of their employees or employees doing personal work on company time. It is not true in all cases. In many cases, a major cause of lost productivity can be due to distractions from office noise. Many times, employees holding conversations with co-workers, not only lose their own productivity, but also have an impact on productivity of others who keep getting distracted because of a loud conversation.
The majority of workplaces are not sufficiently soundproofed so that workers can converse with one another or on the telephone without causing significant distractions for the colleagues in their vicinity. Short-walled cubicles and imperfect layouts in frequently close quarters can cause office noise to be disseminated throughout the entire floor, causing problems especially in smaller workspaces.
Office noise can be a big problem in the workplace and it ends up costing the company money. The largest problem is that office noise will distract nearby employees from their work making their productivity lower and inevitably, reducing the overall productivity and causing the company to take a loss in revenue. The least amount of office noise makes for a more pleasant environment, better productivity, and cost effectiveness for the company.
Many companies have started using office Sound Masking Systems to address the loss of productivity resulting from office noise. These systems use better acoustic designs to significantly reduce background sound which distracts most employees. It also provides speech privacy to employees who want to hold conversations. This ultimately results in increased productivity in almost all the employees since they would not be distracted as much.
As for dealing with the inevitable office noise that comes with employees talking to customers or with one another, a speech privacy system can be implemented to protect the conversation of the worker while shielding others in the office from being distracted by the talking.
A noisy office can contribute to loss of productivity, costing your company money. If you take the time to have a sound masking or speech privacy system installed, this will not only make the work environment more pleasant for everyone in the office, it will also help to create a setting where all your employees can more easily stay on task and do their jobs well.
While many businesses focus on trying to eliminate office socializing and time-wasting activities, they should also be aware of the loss of productivity due to excessive, distracting office noise. Such unwanted distractions can contribute to office stress and take away from the daily work flow that allows productivity. Many offices don't employ any type of soundproofing devices that works to be agents of office sound masking. Speech privacy systems may be the answer: once installed, this can lock in private conversations and keep distracting noises away from fellow employees who are trying to avoid breaking their work flow.
