How To Find A Great Domain Name Through The Back Door

by Jeff Alderson

Those on the prowl for a great domain name to coincide with their business name, service area or focus topic are likely to find many of the good names are already gone. The reality is it is becoming very hard to find a fantastic domain name. With more than 25 million dot com names already registered and thousands more selling each day, the prospect is daunting.

The unfortunate truth is that a good domain name can be vital to online success. Those names that are short, easy to remember, are descriptive within a niche and so on can be the most difficult to snap up.

Since these names are linked to site success, a lot of people seek them out by others means. Buying them from others who have already purchased and registered them can get very costly. Some dot com names are fetching prices in the millions, so it can seem like finding a good one would be impossible.

The buying and selling of domain names has become a big business. There is no denying that. Private investors and even corporations are making very big returns by buying, registers and selling names to others who can use them. There are even sites that have been created to facilitate the trading of these names. Even eBay has gotten into the game in facilitating transfers of names through its auction site.

Although there is a lot of competition out there for better names, there is still an option available to the average Joe. Some are finding a hidden treasure in expired domain names. There are literally thousands of names out there that have cancelled registrations, have expired or are about to.

An expired domain is nothing more than one that was registered in the past, but was never renewed. This means the name goes back into the pot of available names for anyone to be able to buy and register. There are all sorts of reasons why this happens, including failure to pay, forgetfulness, a loss of interest, the company is no longer in business and what have you. Whatever the case, these names are once again on the market. These domains can be particularly lucrative to snatch up. The reality is many of these sites have traffic established, incoming links and so on. They can be ideal for those who want to get into the buying and selling game and even provide great potential for those who simply want to rebuild the domain for their own personal use.

In the past, it was difficult to keep up with what names were on the expired list and those that were soon to expire. This is not the case any longer. Tools are available that can help you keep up with what is on the expired market and what names are soon to arrive on it.

Devising a catchy domain name can be very important to business. It doesn't matter whether you need a domain name for yourself or you just want to get into buying or selling, the expired route can be the way to go. It opens doors where they might have been closed before.
